Wildlife on site

The lack of pesticide usage over the years and the chalky soil means there are plenty of wild flowers although in places grasses have taken over. We still haven’t written up a log of all species found on site.

In 2017 Great tits nested in a hole in the eaves of the old house, so once they’d finished we blocked this up and replaced with a woodcrete box for 2018, which was taken to readily and resulted in a successful brood. Another woodcrete box on the apple tree was ignored in 2017 but used in 2018 by Blue tits. We’ve put a large box on the walnut tree of the sort used by Stock dove or Jackdaw.

Lots of rats on site. Loads of them.

A few pics here - click them to see bigger versions! Don't expect anything worthy of wildlife photographer of the Year as they're only taken with our phones..
